In 2014, Tyler started Lingo Live based on his own personal experience learning Spanish with Kathy, a woman in Guatemala, over Skype. He always thought of it as a hobby but after becoming fluent after 2 years of lessons he realized it was not just affordable, fun, and convenient but also effective and could be a business. Since then, he's grown the team to over 20 people and hundreds of coaches, brought on several Fortune 500 customers, and closed over $6 million in venture capital funding.
Tyler earned his BS in International Business from the University of Southern California and went on to build his career in energy project finance for General Electric. He's lived in Dallas, London, Los Angeles, Rome, Buenos Aires, Hong Kong, NYC, and Austin and his experience immersing himself in exotic places is where he grew to love foreign language and culture.
A native Texan, Tyler now lives in Brooklyn with his wife and 3-month old daughter.
Born in Brazil, Mike moved to the United States at the age of 10. He has launched online platforms such as Inkins, which connected writers and publishers, and Eludico, which turned the news into language lessons. He graduated from
The Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theater before pursuing a degree in Economics from Columbia University. He joined Lingo Live in 2014 and has mostly focused on customer success.
As Chief Learning Officer at Lingo Live, Jesse Abing's mission is to empower people with confidence and communication skills. Jesse's view of language learning as both a byproduct of and a solution to community integration has revolutionized the way Lingo Live delivers language and communication training. By investing in the coaches, prizing the coach-learner relationship and adopting a task-based approach for practicing authentic language in real-world contexts, he has developed impactful programs that transcend traditional language learning programs and work to support company-wide initiatives of diversity and inclusion.
Jesse studied Spanish and Language Education at Luther College and did his graduate work in Second & Heritage Language Acquisition at the University of Texas at Austin under the direction of Dr. Dale Koike.
He credits growing up on a dairy farm in small-town Wisconsin for his focus on community, passion for life and taste for cheese.
Ricky has over 10 years of experience building great products. At Lingo Live, he owns the product vision and execution. Prior, as Chief Product Officer at Sweeten, he enabled Sweeten to bring trust and transparency to the $300B residential renovation industry by setting new standards for contractors and allowing consumers to renovate with confidence. At M5 Networks, acquired by ShoreTel (Nasdaq: SHOR), he led the product efforts for the company's most recognizable and successful products, including it’s cloud-based business phone system. Ricky received his BS in Design and Environmental Analysis from Cornell University. He is a native New Yorker and lives in Manhattan with his wife and son.
